Summary
Addresses & Contacts including a list of addresses of UK Institutions where Planned Births take place. Since so many governement initiatives are short term, and the results of their efforts eventually disappear and the official lists often classify by the name of the Trust, even when there are two or more distinct maternity units under a single heading, (e.g. Heartlands and Solihull) this appendix provides a place to access such information either directly or indirectly.
To facilitate Intra-Uterine Transfers a start has been made to provide a list of direct line telephone numbers to Special Care Baby Units, Labour Wards and Hospital Switchboards together with Post Codes to allow an easy calculation of distances between hospitals using Google Maps (Updated 1.6.08)

Introduction
Each time I have been involved in an initiative concerning maternity care it has been difficult to find an accurate list of all the UK Institutions where Planned Births take place. This is because so much data is classified by the name of a single Trust even when a single trust may include more than one place where births take place. For example Heartlands and Solihull hospitals are part of a single trust yet are on separate sites with different staffs.
There is also a problem with most databases as to whether the hospitals are sorted on a database by their name (e.g. Princess Royal Hospital or Pembury Hospital) or by their Postal Address which is often obscure. The list provide here is sorted alphabetically by whatever title seems most appropriate. In most places this is the the town or city (e.g. Tunbridge Wells rather than Pembury, Birmingham rather than Heartlands) except for London where the classification is by the name of the hospital rather than the borough (e.g. Guys and Thomas
